This course provides a foundational understanding of the internal and external elements of the transformer, the essentials of transformer operation and maintenance implementation and related industry standards. It covers the chemical, mechanical and electrical components of the transformer, the purpose and operating characteristics of these components, the significant requirements and methods for maintenance, and the major testing involved in maintenance.
Also included in this course is a VIP tour of the Hoover Dam! See, learn and appreciate what it's all about. The Hoover Dam has been rated by the American Society of Civil Engineers as one of "America's Seven Modern Civil Engineering Wonders". The 10-acre facility houses 17 generators and produces more than four billion kilowatt hours of electricity in a year.Highlights of the VIP tour include views of: - Inside the power plant - 17 hydroelectric generators - 30-foot-diameter pipes (transports nearly 90,000 gallons of water per second) - Dam construction complexities - Inspection tunnels - Lake Mead, Colorado Rive, Nevada and Arizona Spillways - Nevada Intake Towers - Maps, photos and displays
**Tour is limited in size - reservations are first-come, first-served. Due to situations beyond our control, the Bureau of Reclamation may cancel Dam tours periodically with no prior notice. Attendee will be notified as soon as possible in these rare cases.
This 1-Day class will give the student attendee a more in depth understanding of Power Factor testing in the field. The Power Factor measures the insulation in the transformer. The insulation system is the weakest link in the transformer and can deteriorate over time. At some point, the dielectric strength of this insulation can be compromised and the insulation will fail. The Power Factor is a measurement of the efficiency of the transformer's insulation system and therefore a reliable electrical test to detect deterioration that may cause significant issues with the operation of the transformer. This course will also cover Power Factor Testing of bushings and circuit breakers.
