The many travels of Safe & Reliable

Safe & Reliable packed their bags and headed south to Louisville, KY to present a new, interactive experience for Reliable Plant conference-goers in the industrial and electrical reliability sector. SDMyers representatives gave attendees a hands-on demonstration of our predictive maintenance capabilities, using real equipment in different scenarios to illustrate the benefits of IR and ultrasound.

Detect potential failures early with partial discharge testing

Partial discharge (PD) detection is a failure mode technique that can locate electrical issues very early on with the aid of ultrasonic, transient earth voltage (TEV), high-frequency current transformer (HFCT), and ultra-high frequency (UHF) sensors. PD testing can confirm faults found with liquid testing and find additional failure modes, and it can do it earlier than preventive maintenance methods based on heat and other indicators.

What do apples and transformers have in common?

Neither oxidize well. While oxidation ruins apples, it also ages transformers. Oxidation byproducts accelerate the aging rate of oil and solid insulation, weakening it. Maintaining proper oxidation inhibitor levels in your transformer oil can slow the aging of your transformer and extend its reliable life. Reinhibiting (or adding the proper amount of oxidation inhibitor) transformers can often be done energized by skilled technicians.

IR Ultrasound

Ultrasound and IR - the perfect match for electrical equipment inspection

Inspection of energized electrical equipment has traditionally been performed by infrared cameras with and without IR windows. In more recent years, ultrasound technologies have been added to these inspections for a variety of reasons which include enhanced data for more accurate diagnostics and greater safety.
